11/11/2025 Aurora Super Storm

The night between November 11 and November 12 was an unforgettable night. A powerful patch of sunspots unleashed a series of CME’s towards Earth and when they arrived, they treated most of the U.S. to a wonderful display of northern lights. The colors were easily visible to the unaided eye - reds, pinks, yellows, and greens. Tall pillars danced and bright blobs dashed across the northern night sky. There were multiple, sustained pulsations of energy.

One defining feature of this aurora storm is that most photographers in Colorado picked up a strong red hue, stronger red in these auroras than in the past geomagnetic storms (which tend to be more pink). However, to my naked eye, the auroras were indeed a delicate and beautiful pink color. I was even a little frustrated that the camera was showing such a strong red color since the pink had touched my heart so.

Interestingly, during the post-processing, I discovered that lowering the “color” of the photo revealed a delicate array of hues, and also made the pillars a little more clear and defined.

What a fun and exciting night!
