Pink aurora, orange sky glow, white streak from rocket launch

May 17, 2025 Aurora and Rocket Launch

There was a chance of G2 geomagnetic storms and sightings of auroras were being reported in eastern time zones as the sky slowly transitioned through ever-darkening shades of evening twilight. I set up a timelapse to take a 20 second exposure every two and a half minutes. There was nothing much until the very last frame (this “happens in the very last frame” business happens more often than one would expect). This was taken at exactly 11:26 PM Mountain Daylight Savings Time.
